Nest boxes and layer cages should be made of galvanised steel. If the steel has not been galvanised they will rust very quickly. Nest boxes come in various sizes, as do layer cages. Depending on how many chickens you want to put in each. Organic Nest boxes are used for organic egg product.
Closed layer cage and layer cage for poultry
Layer cages should have no more than 4 chickens per cage – 3 is better. A layer cage is a pretty cruel form of egg farming – much better, in my opinion, are nest boxes. These allow the chickens to brood as they want and need to. If you want to do organic eggs or organic poultry farming you will not be able to use layer cages, but rather organic nest boxes and poultry equipment.
